space and feelings

you slipped your hands
under my shirt
“i want to feel you”
and i wanted to be felt

just one hour ago
with almost-tears
i heard your hardships
taking their toll

but now i taste desire
when you bite my lip

and i realize
we can at one time
be full of despair
and full of lust
space works differently
for things like feelings

and besides, we both have a need
to feel our skin
against each other
to know we’re not alone

togetherness is at one time
a cure for despair
and a quench for lust

so, eyes locked
bodies open
i pull you in
turn you
burn you
and then i earn you
until we ease off the ground
to wander the sky
content to be
you and me

a line in the sand

when you drew a line in the sand
i thought one side was loneliness
and one was you

turns out it wasn’t a choice
you drew the connection
between your future and mine

a clock

they see us as a clock
one hand yours and one hand mine
passing only briefly each hour

but we know the truth
we’re two hands from the same soul
following each other wherever we go

disappear

where nobody knows my name
nobody but you

and we’ll disappear
into strangers
and simply be
you and me

a tree

they see us as a tree
i’m the branch and you’re the leaves
as if i’m holding you up to the sun

but we know the truth
it’s you pulling me to the sky
out of death and into life

a painting

they see us as a painting
i’m the sea and you’re the sky
only meeting on some distant horizon

but we know the truth
every part of your sky
touches every part of my sea
