the light before sunrise

the light before sunrise
falls long across your skin
climbing the curves of the earth
before it finds the curves of your body

the light before sunrise
barely reveals your silhouette
quietly slips through the window
as you slip into my shirt

the light before sunrise
rests on the sheet beside me
warms the edges of our space
while you warm the edges of my world

the light before sunrise
the center of the storm
the pause before life
the need with the want

return to me easily
slide into my arms
as the light before sunrise
slides back into its star
